Alot of people have to deal with discrimination due to race or ethnicity, In the book true notebook their are plenty of inmates that have probably had to deal with this hate in their life and in some instances it could be the reason their in juvinal hall all together. There are very few examples in the book so far that relate to racial discrimination so far but their are a couple hints such as the fact that when he visited Duane's class their was only one white classmate meaning that maybe some of tthe darker kids who were sent to juvy had no choice for whatever they did due to their upbringing in a poorer neighborhood and, or the police just decided to target them over a white kid because they believe that a native american, mexican ect are more likely to be commiting a crime than a white kid. Although i did not notice these small hints and felt bad for someone of a different race because coming from the school im from some of the smartest people ive known have been black.. like my best freind in middle school was a kid named brandon, we were good freinds all through high school and he never really did anything bad he was the average high school student but because of the way he looked (we always used to tell him he looked like 50 cent) he was mistreated by alot of police officers and sometimes teachers would also give him punishments for things that me or someone else would get away with. These acusations that because of skin color a person is automaticly bad is rediculous and i do not agree with them at all we are all people and we should be treated that way.
My family has had to fight for alot of things in their lives, my dad grew up in england and really did not have alot of money, but he was extremely determind man and after high school decided he didnt want to have his kids live the same life he did. He moved to Australia after studying at university and got a job for a homosexual man in australia. He recieved alot of torment from neighbors and freinds when he would invite his boss over for house parties and even though he was still getting paid very little he was very loyal to his boss despite his sexuality and if anyone decided they could not be seen with him or his boss he would immidiatly scrap them thinking they are not worth it. After years of only just making it by and having 3 kids my fathers great loyalty to his boss finally paid off their, was a big job offer in america and my dad was the first he went to not only because of his great record but also because he knew my dad needed it and decided if anyone deserves some extra cash it would be him.
The book true notebook holds alot of preconceptions in it because when anayone thinks of all these inmates at juvinal hall no one's like "oh well i bet they have a great personality" or "they could really be something someday" no they are thought of as scum and criminals that noone would want to be stuck in a room with for five seconds let alone teach a class. This is completely false though because of course tthese kids have made mistakes in their lives but just because they did one thing wrong doesnt mean they ever wanted to or would even do it again after their sentence and just because you go to juvinall hall doesnt mean you cant change and make something of yourself. Just like the book im reading outside of class called "ScarTissue" the biography of Anthony Kiedis lead singer of the red hot chilli peppers. This man went from being a junkie scum bag that would live out of his car, and girlfreinds and other junkies houses, and being arrested and sent to prison more than once to being in my eyes the greatest singer of our time! this just prooves that your past doesnt matter for anything but making you stronger in the future.
