Experiences

@Molly

In the book I am currently reading The complete Persepolis culture is a big theme. The culture of the characters is constantly changing and is in conflict with each other. One part that stood out was Marjis dad's statement about Americans being dumb. It seems as if her father frowned upon the American culture. This may be a result of the on going war and Carters words and the war over oil.
Another culture clash is Fundamentalism vs Modernism. The new culture and the old ways clashed. People of the fundamentalism group thought that one should keep with the old ways and not shave and that women should cover up. The modern woman and the progressive man thought that freedom that shaving was a must and that some hair should be shown not covered up in a veil.
In my life I have experienced many cultures some I find interesting. I do not consider myself part of a set culture at all. This is due to the fact that every0pone has a bit of everything in them there is no pure race. Instead of limitin g myself to one culture I am open to them all.

@Louis
In my book Marji has alot of doubts. One being the ruling of her country. She tries to fight her teachings about king lineage at one point. Another instance is when war breaks loose within her country. Marji's mother has doubts about them staying with the ongoing war. Marji also shows some doubt about her dads side on social ranking when Mehri's relationship is broken due to her being a maid.
I had doubts about attending Columbia at first due to my grades. I had a strong feeling that I would not get in. The doubt was so overwhelming that I waited until a couple days before the deadline to even apply. After talking to a admissions recruiter about the situation thoroughly he assured me it would not be that bad. I guess I got over the doubt by having my situation asessed and not forgeting that it was my dream to attend this school. Int he long run thats how I got here.
